According to some English media, Lamborghini has planned to give his new SUV the opportunity to show all its capabilities in its natural habitat: the competition.
The will of Lamborghini
It was from Lamborghini’s boss, Stefano Domenicali, that the rumour started. Asked by journalists, he said he would support the development of a competition version of the Lamborghini Urus.
“Lamborghini loves challenges, but what we do will be different from what other brands do” explained Stefano Domenicali.
Which race to choose?
Participating in a competition being validated, it is then be necessary to choose which one. Lamborghini would like to highlight all the advantages of the Urus:
- Power: 700 horsepower twin-turbo V8 engine
- Off-road driving: 4 wheel drive system
- Handling: 4 steering wheels
The Italian brand is looking for a prestigious race that will attract the eyes as well as the attention of the public.
Pikes Peak or the Dakar?
The two most possible solutions would then be Pikes Peak or the Dakar according to specialists.
The American Pikes Peak hill race is a brutal competition for machines and where power is paramount. With the starting point being more than 2,500 metres above sea level and the planned finish 1440 metres higher, the race towards the clouds forces us to offer significant power, without which the lack of oxygen proves fatal for the competitors.
The Dakar is an endurance race that would allow the Lamborghini Urus to showcase its off-road driving qualities. However, development costs could be too high for the Italian brand.
Still according to English journalists, Lamborghini could make an announcement by the end of 2018 as to his final choice
The Nürburgring to start?
What we can still imagine quickly is to see the Lamborghini Urus go against another Italian SUV: the Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio, current record holder of the category on the legendary Nürburgring circuit in Germany.
Lamborghini could thus be tempted to compete with the German green hell to take back the queens of the category with the Urus.
The car world and the entire Lamborghini Montreal team are however eager to discover this version of competition to have discovered the Urus during its first appearance in Montreal.
